This time i would like to talk about the options South Baja Offers and it does offers options for everything but for now we will concentrate on DUNES, being Sand dunes or salt dunes or flats Baja is a very unique land but the middle part where you transit form North Baja to South baja is unique, the south tip of Baja is the most known since is booming of develoments, turistic destinations, activities, night life and infraestructure in general, but the north area or i may say middle area known as the municipies of Mulege and Comondu hold so much nature beauty and baja style that i consider them baja hidden treasure.

On my posts I will talk more and more of this municipios, but this time even do i did that before I will expand the content about Guerrero Negro, its imposible to talk about salt and dunes and not to mention Guerrero Negro, this place holds the one of the largest open air salt mines in the world, maybe the chip of the computer u are usng to read this came from here from the silice that is extracted from this mines, salt aint only for food ! any way what  we care about as image profesionals when dunes or salt comes in to the subject is LOCATIONS !!!! and there are AWSOME  location in this place, las time i mention you could even fake a snow location with the places found in hte salt mine, but this time i will talk more of the diversity of locations found in htis area. if you are planing a shoot where you need diferent location and dont count with large buget, Guerrero Negro is your answer you have the saltmine wich could be used either for facking a winter location with the snow white look. or somethng more agresive if you bring the mine infraestructure that is arround the place, or even get some nostalgic or grungy shoots on the abandon salt mine.

Guerreo negro is amazing and not only there is sand and salt dunes you may also find whales in season and they get ver very close, you can find estuaries that are protected due to the variety of bird species found in them, this gives you a great deal of diversity you can get for film or photo locations when shooting in Guerrero Negro, but Guerrero Negro is not the only palce to find dunes and estuaries together you can get the same deal in Ciudad Constitucion, guess what there is whales to and this city is closer to the main city of La Paz, also in Los Cabos meaning Both Cabo San Lucas and San Jose we have Sand Dunes waiting to be used as a film or photo location, there are dunes in both sides in hte side of the east cape and also on the Pacific side this actually are almost in down town CABO, in this sand dunes the movie TROY was shoot, Brad Pit performs as Aquiles and the scene where he cuts the head of the estatu at the gods temple was set on the OLD LIGHT HOUSE of Cabo San Lucas that is now being restored.

this dunes are very accesible and easy to shoot, beacuase in Cabo you can find many of the things you need for a production like ATVs, hotel rooms, transportation, catering, equipment rentals and US ! President Felipe Calderón presented on March 9, 2010 in Baja Studios in Rosarito, Baja California a program to support the film industry comprising a number of incentives, facilities and incentives for foreign productions interested in filming in Mexico.

Incentive: Cash rebate up to 7.5% of local expenditures, eligible films and television shows that spend in Mexico a minimum of 75 million (pesos) in production and /or 20 million (pesos) in postproduction.

Up to an additional 5% rebate, if the film meets the following criteria to promote the image of Mexico:

Use of clear expression and origin of Mexican locations in positive contexts.
Use a minimum of national key talent, both in talent and production crew.
A 70% minimum of filming / recording shall be made in Mexico.
Productions whose plot presents the country in a favorable and positive way.
All applications and paperwork made to government agencies must be resolved within a period no longer than 2 weeks after the application has been submitted.

Eddie Bauer comes to Baja Sur and Los Cabos to shoot their swimsuit catalogue

THE ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF THE DAY OF THE DEAD IS A WEALTH OF IMAGES AND GREAT OPPORTUNITIES FOR FILMING THE LIFE OF THIS MEXICAN COMMUNITY LOCATED AT THE TIP OF THE BAJA PENINSULA.

This time we are posting about an old production brought to Baja by HSI productions, the client was MARTINI & ROSI and the main actor George Clooney. This project allowed us to work in a larger scale and for the year that this took place it was a challenge for us as a company, Thom and Diana had work in larger projects before but for Me (Aleph Alighieri) was a new arena, and for us as a team was like our baptism of fire. Even do, we had a lot of challenges during the filming of this commercial everything went well and it was a succes. here is the final product and an brief with photos of how this was shoot.

This commercial was filmed on Chileno reef and at Las Brujas beach, a beautiful rocky beach with a mediterranean look located where the Twin Dolphin hotel used to be. There was a scene that included a party so we had many extras and actors and this required catering and set up for over 40 people that is why we had so many trailers also with George Clooney this couldnt be a small production.

The water scenes required a lot of pre-production and marine logistics, the Marine Coordination, included a mooring system for the boats to be in place (picture boat and lighting/grip boat), we had a few other boats and wave runners to shuttle to the beach and to control the marine traffic to avoid unwanted vessels to apear in the shoot,  the lighting boat was a 2 storage platform to be able to place lights above the talent easyly and we had to load a generator on this platform to juice all the lights. Must of the lighting gear was brought from L.A., as 12k’s where required, and those are not available locally, this borught a whole new set of surprises in to the mix since all the gear had to be transported throught the Baja by land, but as in any production problems rise and we had to end up taking all the seats of a cesna plane at 2am and then fly all the gear, but hey the comercial got completed and in time ! here are some photos of the production.

SOUTHERN BAJA HAS FABULOUS LOCATIONS FOR SHOOTING ON AND AROUND SAND DUNES BY THE OCEAN WITH VERY LITTLE GOVERNMENTAL RESTRICTIONS.

Hurricane Jimena recently pass close to Los Cabos, news make a lot of noise about this and we consider is important to let you know that everything went smooth and the damage done to the infrastructure where minimum or none in Los Cabos, we helped create this clip that we gave away to some local companies with strong online prescence for giving it more exposure, so here it is enjoy and remeber los cabos is ready for video, photo and film produciton and more beautiful than ever with perfect sunny days and intact infraestucture, and ready for turism to.
